Required documents to enroll in Kindergarten – 12th Grade:
(Kindergarten must be 5 years old by August 31)

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Student's current immunization record
  3. Parent/guardian photo ID (Proof of guardianship, if required)
  4. Previous school records – transcript, behavior, attendance (Signature Schools Only)
  5. One proof of residency (See “Acceptable Proofs of Residency” list below)

Documents to in enroll in Pre-Kindergarten:
(Students must be three or four years old on or before July 31 to qualify for Pre-K)

  1. Enrollment Application
  2. Student's verification of birth (Birth Certificate)
  3. Student's current immunization record
  4. Parent/guardian photo ID (Proof of guardianship, if required)
  5. One proof of residency
  6. Proof of household income:
    • Two current pay stubs
    • Current TANF award letter
    • Current SSI verification
    • Unemployment letter
    • Current 1040A tax form with W-2's, (employer letter on company letterhead, notarized letter from employer)
    • Child support letter

  • Valid Property Deed
  • Current Real Estate Tax Receipt
  • Mortgage Statement/Bill
  • Signed Residential Lease Agreement

  • Personal Property Tax Receipt (Past year)
  • Homeowner’s/Rental Insurance Policy (Current year)
  • Social Services, Social Security Statement, or Other Legal/Court Documents (TANF, SNAP letter)
  • Pay stub/Pay check (within 30 days)
  • Bank statement (within 30 days)

*Residency Affidavit (click to download) – If you provide a residency affidavit the Head of Household must provide one item from the Proof of Residency #1 list AND the parent/guardian must provide one item from the proof of residency #2 list in their own name.

Families will complete one application which takes approximately 20 minutes.

The application can be completed on a smart phone, tablet or Chromebook. We highly recommend completing the application via Google Chrome. Parents who do not have internet access at home can get support and apply through the Office of Admissions at the KCPS Board of Education building, which is located at 2901 Troost Ave. in Kansas City, Mo. The Office of Admissions will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Yes! You are automatically enrolled in your neighborhood school. After you complete the initial application, you can log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to then apply for up to four Signature Schools for each student.

Current KCPS families can quickly apply for a signature school or other academic programs through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account. Simply log into Infinite Campus, go to More > School Choice. Click the “Schools” and “Programs” you want to apply to and click “Complete”. You will need to formally accept the offered seat in the portal by the deadline.

If you are a current KCPS family (have other students currently enrolled in KCPS) and have a student ready to enroll in preschool or kindergarten, you can easily add another student right in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account. Log into your account, go to More > Online Registration and follow the steps to add a new student. Complete the process by clicking “Finish Registration”.

If you are enrolling your student into your neighborhood school, your application will be approved by the Admissions department. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email confirming your school and when your student can start. If you applied for a signature school, you will receive a response within 10 business days. If your student is eligible for the lottery, you student will be entered in and you will receive a seat offer on February 26, 2024.

Once you have applied for a signature school, students will be notified via email of admissions status within ten days of application (for some schools, final admission status is not determined until after an audition or lottery). Once you receive notification your student is offered a seat, you must accept the seat in Infinite Campus before the deadline.

Any student who lives within the Kansas City Public Schools attendance boundary and meets the school’s enrollment requirements can attend a Signature School.

While you may receive offers to multiple schools, you can only accept one choice. Once you accept your seat, the spaces in the other schools will be released to other potential students.
